In August 1971, at the Bonneville Salt Flats, the Eagle-Picher Silver Eagle set a new land-speed record for an electric car, reaching an impressive 152.598 MPH in the measured mile. This groundbreaking vehicle set 21 land-speed records, including 14 national and 7 international records, all officially supervised and timed by USAC officials.

A product of a joint effort between Mechanix Illustrated Magazine and Eagle-Picher Industries, this car was engineered by Darryl Goade of the Eagle-Picher Joplin, MO battery division. The advanced battery cells are of the same specification used in NASA's Apollo 15 Lunar Rover!
